DAVID DONAHUE

RETAIL PACKAGING

In 1972, in the heart of New York City’s fashion district, a small accessory company grew into one of the leading menswear brands in America. David Donahue stops at nothing to dress today’s modern man for anything his day may bring. The brand is constantly evolving – each new season brings fashion forward patterns, fabrics, colors, and fits. David Donahue came to CRP with the hope of bringing the same approach to their latest retail packaging system.

The Challenge:

Our team was tasked with not only producing packaging that would stand out on retail shelves, but ensuring their brand standards (ie. their signature blue) were cohesive throughout all components, on multiple substrates, using various print techniques.

The Solutions:

Utilizing out-of-the box techniques to color match, we created consistency from item-to-item. The attention to detail and collaborative partnership between our two entities resulted in a beautiful, elevated program.

For those of you who are packaging nerds, like us, here’s a peak at the different substrates and print techniques we used to achieve the look.

  • Jewelry Boxes:

    • Three color litho-print logo on coated paper

    • Soft touch matte lamination

    • Spot gloss UV to highlight parts of the logo

    • Luxe suede interior with matching stretch cords

  • Apparel Box:

  • Binder:

    • Heat stamped binder material to achieve a deep blue for the logo clear space and border.

    • Silkscreened logo

The Result:

Through multiple rounds of product sampling and color matching, we achieved the perfect look and feel for David Donahue. In addition, the innovative packaging system showcases products beautifully on the shelf, protects the menswear accessories, and transforms into a keepsake box to last long after purchase.
